My story

My name is Alessandro Bemporad. I am an electronic music producer (and a senior software engineer) from Florence, Italy.

It’s really strange for me to think how many years have passed since “Boxedge” was the name of a Florentine darkwave band, in which I was the singer, keyboardist, and songwriter.

It was the 80s, and I was a very young dark post-punk.  They were the years of The Cure, The Sisters of Mercy, Gary Numan, The Cult, Killing Joke, Japan, and so many other artists who filled my nights with their concerts and records.

Then, suddenly, my life took a completely different direction, and for many years I worked first as a software engineer, and then as a manager in large IT companies. My second nature – technology – took over.

But music never abandoned me, even though I had abandoned it, and a few years ago, all of a sudden, I decided to go back in time.  I abandoned the suit and tie, and became an electronic music producer, and again a software engineer (an artist of code, in my mind).

I named myself after my old band.: “Boxedge”.  I produced some electronic music singers for a few years. Then I produced an album of ‘abstract’ music (PZ Space). I worked on soundtracks for dance and contemporary art performances (such as “Pulsatilla”, “Salomé” and “Elements”).

It’s strange to think that “The Circle”, one of the songs on my “Void” album, was written in the 80s (it was very different then, and I was the singer!), as well as other songs that I hope to add to the ones I’ve composed recently.

And finally, a while ago, I decided to pursue my work as a music producer and songwriter on my own. I built a kind of ‘void’ around my musical work. I programmed a synthetic voice, and dressed them up with a virtual singer: Lunaria Payne.

Lunaria Payne is my creation. She is not an artificial intelligence: she is an artificial singer, a cybernetic angel with gothic and darkwave traits, programmed by me. A permanent guest in my songs, Lunaria Payne is one of my distinguishing features.

In 2019 I also founded my own software company, Artebinaria, working in the field of augmented reality on Apple platforms, which is also my personal record label.

Basically, my job is to filter the past through the future. Music, art and technology.
