Boxedge & Lunaria Payne

Glimpses of past and future, in electronic music

My story

My name is Alessandro Bemporad. I am an electronic music producer (and a senior software engineer) from Florence, Italy.

It’s really strange for me to think how many years have passed since “Boxedge” was the name of a Florentine darkwave band, in which I was the singer, keyboardist, and songwriter.

It was the 80s, and I was a very young dark post-punk.  They were the years of The Cure, The Sisters of Mercy, Gary Numan, The Cult, Killing Joke, Japan, and so many other artists who filled my nights with their concerts and records…

Introducing Lunaria Payne

Lunaria Payne is my creation.
She is not an artificial intelligence: she is an artificial singer, a cybernetic angel with gothic and darkwave traits, programmed by me. A permanent guest in my songs, Lunaria Payne is one of my distinguishing features.

Boxedge feat.Lunaria Payne

Walking in the Rain

A song I wrote a few years ago, with a new synthetic interpretation by Lunaria Payne, and with a new arrangement and production. "Walking in the rain" is the story of a love that died a moment before being born.

Situation

With this cover song, I celebrate Vince Clarke and Alison Moyet (Yazoo), two artists I have loved ever since I bought the single of their original ‘Situation', when it was released in 1982.

To cut a long story short

Turn up the volume, and listen to my electronic tribute to Spandau Ballet.

Masquerade

My electronic tribute to the Killing Joke.

I breath

I am Dust

My personal electronic tribute Gary Numan

Rain

My electronic tribute, with love, to The Cult.

Invocation

Invocation is a reflection on the loss of meaning, in the face of the pain that lurks at every step. Often, this sense of loss increases also because of our feelings of guilt, of mistakes made in the past. And so it happens that in a few brief moments of time we find ourselves looking upwards, towards the sky, in search of protection and refuge from a world that is often decidedly incomprehensible.

Alice

My personal tribute, with love, to The Sisters of Mercy.

The Circle

I wrote this song one night many years ago, in the dark in my room, smoking a cigarette. I thought that what I had just found was too good to last, and that it would soon be over, even in the face of promises of eternal love. And so it was.

Under The Moon

This song is loosely inspired by an Italian poet from the first half of the nineteenth century that I have always loved: Giacomo Leopardi. Under the moon, which looks at us indifferently from afar, our lives unfold, often sad and useless. And in the end our hearts cried for a long time, in vain.

Elements

Earth, Air, Fire, Water. A suite in four parts, which I dedicated to the four elements of nature. My sensations of Celtic electronica, composed in my beloved Bretagne.

Saturday Night

"Saturday Night" is an ironic song, sung in Italian, which tells us about the grim reaper, who hides in our dreams to remind us that we should never waste time on useless things. Because, sooner or later, she will really come knocking at our door, and then we will regret the time lost, the love we could have given and didn't, the good and bad days we didn't live and will never live.

Salomé

An electronic evocation of our collective unconscious.

Boxedge 01

"Last Train": A techno song from dark railways. "Archetype": archetypes are permanent elements of the unconscious, but they constantly change form. (C.G. Jung)
